-Study of federal projects affecting environment. -Must be filed for "major" federal actions -Only paperwork and research need to be done; no other activities mandated 1980- Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act - Provided for 43,585,000 acre of new national park lands in Alaska with 25 wild and scenic rivers 1982- Nuclear Waste Policy Act - U.S. Government must develop a high level nuclear waste site by 2015 -Permanent disposal of highly radioactive waste. -Nuclear waste come from production of nuclear weapons. -Established a permanent, underground repository for high level radioactive waste. |
1986- Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-know Act (EPCRKA)- Requires reporting toxic releases
-Also identified as Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) - Encourages response for chemical releases. 1980- Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act -Also known as the "Nongame Act" -Designed to support state efforts to protect the 83% of fish and wildlife species that were neglected under prior American law. -It was approved September 29. 1982- Nuclear Waste Policy Act (NWPA) - U.S. Government must develop a high level nuclear waste site by 2015. -Supports the use of deep geologic repositories for the safe storage and/or disposal of radioactive waste. -The NWPA assign the Department of Energy (DOE) to site, build and operate a deep geologic repository for the disposal of high level waste and spent nuclear fuel. |
